The Ban on Incandescent Lamps
How the ban works: You can still buy and use incandescent lamps at homoe. However, these will not be imported and more. We have some stock left; but when the shelves run empty, customers will be able to use a wide variety of other lamps including halogen, compact fluorescent lights (CFL), and LED lights bulbs. Here’s a breakdown of the alternatives:
Halogen Lights
- Closest colour temperature to incandescent lamps
- Only last for 1000 hours
- Consume approximately 43 watts compared to a 60 watt incandescent light (read more)
- The cheapest of the bunch
CFL Bulbs (more info)
- Last considerably longer 100000 hours
- Consume 13 watts for the equivalent of a 60 watt incandescent bulb (read more)
- Priced slightly higher
- Contain trace amounts of mercury that has to be recycled at a proper facility (read more)
- Produce cooler light, tinting rooms in a slight blue rather than warm orange tinged incandescent bulbs
LED Lights (more info)
- Most expensive lighting solution – prices have been going down steadily
- Provide near white illumination
- Rated to last the longest up to between 20000 – 50000 hours
